Setting Limits That Hold
Real control tools like deposit limits and self-exclusion are not window dressing but real tools that gamblers can reach for. But they have to know how each actually works, how they freeze or block and when they unlock, to understand the safety these tools offer.

Money-based limits are designed to block more quickly than they allow
Money-based controls are designed in the first place to stop money going out, and second only to block more quickly than they allow more to go out.
A deposit limit sets a maximum ceiling on how much a gambler can give the operator over a period. If the gambler tightens this limit, it takes effect right away. If they try to loosen it, it does not open immediately. And it matters that this limits only deposit: any winnings withdrawn between now and the limits reset are not counted in the total.
The asymmetry between tightening ("cooling") and loosening ("heating") applies in other ways too. But it is built in - the limit has to "bite" quickly if it is to meet the brief, so it locks immediately on the way in, and delays access on the way back out.
The flipside is that a studied loosening works too, to reset the system after a cooling period comes a 24-hour delay. This protects the player from pushing a button and reopening the account.
And then the time freeze takes over
The definitive break is the self-exclusion.
Self-exclusion is a long-term, customer-initiated restriction on the ability to play on the platform. As with a deposit limit, the account lock is immediate. But it stays frozen, not for 24 hours, but for a period of at least six months up to indefinite.
For a gambler who finds it is not enough, a system of escalating support follows. The Japan mental health and welfare centre consultation list includes the prefectural and designated city mental health and welfare centres as consultation points for gambling addiction.
A support hotline for gambling addiction is listed by the Gambling Addiction Prevention and Recovery Support Center, staffed year-round and 24 hours a day. The first step is always digital and with the operator, even when a localised self-exclusion will not cover other casino sites.
